JOHNSTON COUNTY, NC – August 11, 2025 – Local filmmaker Char Vinar announces the premiere of her highly anticipated independent short movie, “Black Honey,” on Thursday, September 11, 2025, starting at 5 pm in the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield, 305 E. Market Street in downtown Smithfield. The movie, which is about 30 minutes long, will be shown in the second-floor multipurpose meeting room. Admission is free and open to the public.
"Black Honey" is a captivating true-life drama that tells the author's story of losing her only daughter to addiction, having cancer, getting divorced and losing both parents within eight months of each other, all in four years, and how she survived, rebuilt her life all on her own and rose above it all to find a whole new purpose. The film explores themes of addiction, grief, depression, betrayal, and survival, as well as triumph and thriving despite what life has thrown her way, and promises to offer audiences a unique perspective on rising above life's tragedies and reclaiming the pieces of yourself lost along the way.
Director, writer, and producer Char Vinar, is excited to bring “Black Honey” to the community that inspired its creation. This short movie is a labor of love, and its themes are expected to resonate deeply with local audiences.
The premiere will take place during the monthly meeting of Neuse River Writers and will include a special Q&A session with Director Char Vinar and members of the cast and crew immediately following the screening. This will offer attendees a unique opportunity to gain insights into the filmmaking process and the inspiration behind the story.
